In a country with a Christian-identifying population of just 1%, the number of popularly known Japanese people who are actively representing Jesus Christ is relatively few, so I wanted to highlight individuals who are proclaiming the good news of their salvation through their life and work in Japan.

This post features artist/poet/writer, Tomihiro Hoshino (1946- ), whose story is a miraculous example of God’s power manifested through human weakness, and a testament to the Lord’s intentionality in how He speaks to and approaches each one of us in order to draw us to Him, ultimately rescuing and redeeming all peoples according to His grace and mercy.

In March of 1970, Hoshino graduated from Gunma University and became a junior high gymnastics teacher the following month.

But that June, in an attempt to demonstrate a routine vaulting exercise to his junior high students, he suffered a severe injury that paralyzed him from the neck down. He was 24 years old.
